“Cozy cabin in the forest by the sea” was the clients’ program statement for this house, located between forest and shore in Mälarhusen. The house reflects the variation of the sand dunes and the trees of the coastal forest in its volumes, oriented in relation to the sea, the nature reserve, and the cardinal directions.
The materials are consistently wood, both inside and out, with some smooth feature walls that define and emphasize direction. The roofs are covered with titanium zinc sheet and sedum. In the glazed family room, the open fireplace with its solid chimney anchors the house into the drifting sand. Between the main house and the family room, the kitchen is positioned as a link. The house was to include at least five bedrooms and at least eight beds, a spacious, beautiful, and functional hall with a staircase, a family room, a living room with space for a dining table, a generous kitchen, a bathroom with shower and laundry, and ample storage. The house is intended to be used year-round, not only in summer.
The house was nominated for Simrishamn Municipality’s Architecture Prize 2025
