This Beach House is located in sand dunes where if offers unobstructed views of the sea and the island of Bornholm in the Baltic. The landscape has inspired a simple building following the topography of the sand dunes with strict lines that rise up to offer sea views. Large glass sections and a restrained colour scheme were chosen to blend the building in beautifully with its surroundings.

The ground floor and upstairs are connected to each other by the spacious open stairwell. The interior is inspired by the landscape and the dunes with their soft flow back and forth. The ground floor has different horizontal levels combined with the dramatic stairwell opening up the vertical dimension; here you climb to the upstairs hall with a balcony overlooking the dunes, the sea and Bornholm.

Mälarhusen is located in the southeastern part of Sweden in the part of Skåne known as Österlen – one of Sweden’s most attractive tourist destinations. Featured in the German book Skandinavische Einfach (Scandinavian simplicity) by Thomas & Jon Steinfeldt, as one of ten selected Scandinavian houses.
